This is a repeat post but it's pretty darn important. You gotta have the right tool for the job. Sure you could use a flat head screwdriver on a Phillips bolt, it might work but it's not your best option and certainly not more efficient.
When you are running, it makes sense to have a shoe that supports your foot through it's full motion heel to toe and gives you some sort of absorption to minimize impact on joints.
When you strength train and are loading the body you want to create as much stability as possible from head to heel. Having a shoe with a lot off cushion does not give you a fair shot at creating stability from the ground up. We need to maximize as much foot surface with the floor as possible. Flat soled or zero drop shoes (or barefoot when possible) is your best option of creating the sturdy base so we can prevent injury.
