If we just focus on the the booze itself there are 7 calories per gram of alcohol and about 28 grams = 1 ounce. The higher the proof the more calories per ounce.
Wine is a bit more tricky based on residual sugar content of the varietal. But on average 1 ounce of wine is 24 calories and upwards. Most of us aren't drinking just 1 ounce. The average restaurant pour is 5 ounces putting us at a minimum 120 calories per glass.
Let's chat beer. It seems to be the category with the widest range of calories. Typically the lower the ABV (alcohol by volume) the less calories. The range can be 55 calories for a bottle of Michelob Ultra Low Carb to 240 calories for a stout on tap.
Just note as we head into all summer events, if you have weight loss goals it might be time to update your alcohol intake patterns. You can absolutely enjoy beverages on occasion and still make physique progress but just make sure to have all the information so you can make the best decision for your body.
